NHL Deadline Deals & The Fantasy Impact

Deadline Deals: The Fantasy Impact
The Fantasy Sports Forum.com
Call it “Blockbuster Tuesday”, as NHL clubs made 25 trades, involving 45 players, between 9 a.m., ET, and the 3 p.m., ET, trading deadline. The number of trades matches the trading deadline high, set in each of the past two years, while the number of players involved ranks second all-time to the 46 in 2003. Following is a list of the biggest transactions and their fantasy impact:
Atlanta traded RW Marian Hossa and RW Pascal Dupuis to Pittsburgh for RW Colby Armstrong, C Erik Christensen, C Angelo Esposito and Pittsburgh's 1st-round pick in the 2008 Entry Draft.
Fantasy Impact: Hossa owners should be ecstatic, as this prolific goal scorer will now get to have either Sidney Crosby or Evgeni Malkin feeding him the puck. He’ll have a chance to substantially add to his 26 goal total for this season. In Armstrong and Christensen, the Thrashers obtain two good young players who do not have much fantasy value at this point in their careers.

Buffalo traded D Brian Campbell and its 7th-round pick in the 2008 Entry Draft to San Jose for RW Steve Bernier and San Jose's 1st-round pick in the 2008 Entry Draft.
Fantasy Impact: Campbell is a top tier fantasy defenseman, ranked 3rd among defensemen in assists with 38 and 7th in points with 43. He goes to a San Jose team which sorely needs a power play quarterback on the backline. Bernier is a solid young forward with 13 goals and 10 assists, but not likely to be a big contributor, even in deep fantasy leagues.

Don't Be "That Guy" At Your Fantasy Baseball Draft

The Fantasy Sports Forum
DON’T BE “THAT GUY” ON DRAFT DAY!
Draft day in fantasy sports is one of the best days of the year. It’s the D-Day for the fantasy player. You can make or break your season based on the decisions made on this momentous day. For the serious player, there will surely be a spillover effect into real life that can translate into misery or elation over the course of the next six months. And those of us who still draft the old-fashioned way, not online, but by meeting in somebody’s basement, living room or bar – we’ve all witnessed “that guy” at the draft who will absorb unrelenting ridicule because of his embarrassing draft day actions. Don’t be that guy on draft day!
So to avoid being “that guy”, here is a list of ten rules to remember:
1. Don’t be that guy who calls out the name of a retired player when it’s your turn to pick.
Just a heads-up, but Dante Bichette, Greg Vaughn, Craig Biggio, Matt Williams and Edgar Martinez are no longer eligible to be selected.
2. Don’t be that guy who calls out the name of a player who has already been drafted by somebody else. Not only did you use up all your allotted time (again), now you’ve just brought
the draft to a screeching halt.
3. Don’t be that guy who’s frantically flipping the pages of his fantasy baseball draft magazine every time it’s his turn to pick. It’s bad enough you just bought it from 7-11 on the way to the draft, at least pretend like you’ve glimpsed at it before.
4. Don’t be that guy who drinks a six-pack before round three. You were funny in rounds one and two, now you’re a train wreck who keeps quoting Samuel Jackson from Pulp Fiction.
5. Don’t be that guy who’s sitting next to the drunk guy. Move away while you still can; his breath isn’t going to get any better.
6. Don’t be that guy who only drafts players from his favorite team, especially if that team is the Kansas City Royals.
7. Don’t be that guy who offers to host the draft and plays the entire Genesis box set in his 6 CD player as background music.
8. Don’t be that guy who shows up with his wife or girlfriend. What’s even more pathetic is if you’re consulting with her on which players to draft. (This rule is withdrawn if she’s really hot).
9. Don’t be that guy who loudly boasts that every pick he makes is, “the steal of the draft”. Waiting for John Rocker to make a comeback and be your closer is not a steal, just a crime.

Ranking the Top 15 3B

The Fantasy Sports Forum.com

2008 DRAFT RANKING:
THIRD BASEMEN

The FSF Score combines the following key statistical categories:
slugging percentage, runs batted in, runs, base on balls and stolen bases.
The list includes players only from their primary position.

2008 2007
DRAFT FSF
RANK PLAYER SCORE
1. Alex Rodriguez. NYY 1062
There’s no debate on whether ARod had one of the greatest seasons ever –
the question is whether he can repeat 54-156-.313? I think he’ll be pitched around more this season, so expect a slight dropoff.
2. David Wright, NYM 894
After ARod, Wright is one of the most complete fantasy player, with stellar stats across all categories. His 34 SBs rank him second among 3B.
3. Miguel Cabrera, DET 855
The move to the potent Tigers lineup will only offer protection for an already lethal hitter. There’s no reason he can’t at least repeat his 2007 stats:34-119-.319.

Ranking the Top 40 Outfielders

http://www.thefantasysportsforum.com/

2008 DRAFT RANKING:
OUTFIELDERS

The FSF Score combines the following key statistical categories:
slugging percentage, runs batted in, runs, base on balls and stolen bases.
The list includes players only from their primary position.

2008 2007
DRAFT FSF
RANK PLAYER SCORE
1. Matt Holliday, COL 937
He’s coming off an MVP caliber year, plays in a strong lineup and in a great ballpark. With a line like: 36-137-.339, what’s not to like?
2. Carl Crawford, TAM 720
Can do it all - steals bases, drives in runs, hits for some power. If he continues to bat third in the lineup, his stats could even be better than usual.
3. Vladimir Guererro, LAA 834
He’s about as consistent as they come. He does carry some baggage however, with a bad back that has cost him some games. Back injuries have also been known to take away some power.
4. Carlos Lee, HOU 802
Simply put, Lee can hit (32-119-.303). With the addition of Miguel Tejada to the lineup, life should be even better this season.
5. Alfonso Soriano, CHC 776
Doesn’t seem to steal as many bases as he used to, but the power is still there. Hopefully he won’t have to deal with any nagging leg injuries.

Fantasy Hockey-Making the Trade Deadline Moves

Making the Trade Deadline Moves
The Ten Hottest Under the Radar Trade Deadline Additions
www.TheFantasySportsForum.com
The return of Teemu Selanne gives back the Ducks their premier goal scorer from last season and a great shot to repeat as champs. While the chance to add Selanne in your league is likely gone, you can still give your team a boost by adding some hot players who are “under the radar” before the trade deadline. Depending on your league's roster depth, some of these players may still be available on the free agent list. Here are the players on our list of the ten hottest trade deadline additions.
1. Peter Mueller, C, Phoenix. The rookie has led the Coyotes surge into playoff contention with 10 goals (4 on the power play) and 8 assists in his last 13 games.
2. Mike Knuble, RW, Philadelphia. The veteran has found his scoring touch with 9 goals in his last 12 games, with 4 coming on the power play.
3. Andrei Kostitsyn, RW, Montreal. The better of the Kostitsyn brothers has 5 goals, 5 assists, 3 PPG and is a +5.
4. Radim Vrbata, RW, Phoenix. Has 6 goals in his last 9 games
5. Alexander Radulov, RW, Nashville. In his last 13 games, he has 9 goals and is a +6.

Ranking the Elite Starting Pitchers

2008 DRAFT RANKING:
THE ELITE STARTING PITCHERS

http://www.thefantasysportsforum.com/

Starting pitchers are ranked based on their 2008 projection and their 2007
T5C (Top 5 Category) Score. The 2007 T5C Score indicates when a starting pitcher was ranked in the top five for the following five categories: wins, earned run average, complete games, quality starts and strikeouts. A score of 5 (highest score) means the pitcher ranked in the top five in all five categories.

1. Johan Santana, NYM T5C SCORE:1
The two time Cy Young winner was not at the top in categories last season as usual, appearing in the top 5 only once (2nd in Ks with 235). However, over the last four years, he leads all starting pitchers in wins, Ks and ERA. Moving out of the AL will boost him back to dominance.
2. Jake Peavy, SD T5C SCORE: 4
Peavy had a career year and was the MLB strikeout leader. There’s no reason to think he can’t repeat, or do better.
3. C.C. Sabathia, CLE T5C SCORE: 4
Dominant in every category except ERA, but his 3.21 is still one of the best.
4. Brandon Webb, ARI T5C SCORE: 4
Continues to improve as an elite pitcher, and 4 complete games tied him for 2nd.
5. Josh Beckett, BOS T5C SCORE: 3
The only 20 game winner on this list, but not always durable (missed 4 starts).
