NHL Deadline Deals & The Fantasy Impact

Deadline Deals: The Fantasy Impact
The Fantasy Sports Forum.com
Call it “Blockbuster Tuesday”, as NHL clubs made 25 trades, involving 45 players, between 9 a.m., ET, and the 3 p.m., ET, trading deadline. The number of trades matches the trading deadline high, set in each of the past two years, while the number of players involved ranks second all-time to the 46 in 2003. Following is a list of the biggest transactions and their fantasy impact:
Atlanta traded RW Marian Hossa and RW Pascal Dupuis to Pittsburgh for RW Colby Armstrong, C Erik Christensen, C Angelo Esposito and Pittsburgh's 1st-round pick in the 2008 Entry Draft.
Fantasy Impact: Hossa owners should be ecstatic, as this prolific goal scorer will now get to have either Sidney Crosby or Evgeni Malkin feeding him the puck. He’ll have a chance to substantially add to his 26 goal total for this season. In Armstrong and Christensen, the Thrashers obtain two good young players who do not have much fantasy value at this point in their careers.

Buffalo traded D Brian Campbell and its 7th-round pick in the 2008 Entry Draft to San Jose for RW Steve Bernier and San Jose's 1st-round pick in the 2008 Entry Draft.
Fantasy Impact: Campbell is a top tier fantasy defenseman, ranked 3rd among defensemen in assists with 38 and 7th in points with 43. He goes to a San Jose team which sorely needs a power play quarterback on the backline. Bernier is a solid young forward with 13 goals and 10 assists, but not likely to be a big contributor, even in deep fantasy leagues.
